Artist Statement
My work explores the hidden patterns within nature, particularly where growth and decay create unexpected harmony. I combine experimental printmaking with sculptural installations, using techniques like viscosity printing and creating collagraph plates from recycled materials. My “Temporal Layers” series is inspired by geological formations and tree rings, reflecting the deep rhythms of ecological time, while “Emergent Forms” captures biological patterns that feel both familiar and otherworldly. Throughout my practice, I examine natural cycles, human environmental impact, and the ongoing relationship between time and materials.
Artist Bio
Don Dao is a Los Angeles-based artist who transforms reclaimed materials to highlight connections between human consumption and the natural world. With a BA in Art from UCLA and an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from CSULB, Don brings both artistic vision and educational perspective to his prints, sculptures, and installations. His work layers recycled materials through experimental collagraph techniques that push traditional printmaking boundaries, inviting viewers to see discarded objects in a new light—as elements that reveal broader patterns of ecological interconnection.
