Process & Materials

What is a Collagraph?

A collagraph is an innovative printmaking process where a plate is carefully constructed by layering materials to create textures and depth. Once sealed, the plate is inked and run through a press, transferring intricate details to paper. This method allows for dynamic compositions, rich textures, and a uniquely tactile quality that distinguishes each print as a singular work of art.

Sustainable Materials

I incorporate recycled and repurposed materials, such as chipboard, plastic packaging, and other everyday items, into my collagraph plates. These elements are combined with traditional materials to create dynamic compositions that explore themes of renewal and transformation.

The Artistic Process

  1. Plate Construction: Layers of texture are built onto the plate using adhesive, cutting, and layering techniques.
  2. Sealing and Inking: The plate is sealed for durability and inked by hand using a variety of methods, such as viscosity printing, to achieve rich textures and contrasts.
  3. Printing: The inked plate is pressed onto dampened paper, resulting in one-of-a-kind prints with tactile and visual depth.
